Week six of the 2025 NFL season
Real-time updates includes live text for the weekend matchups on various channels, starting with Denver Broncos v New York Jets in London (from 14:00 BST). Additionally, radio commentary can be heard on select stations covering a separate game (from 21:00 BST).
It's week six in the NFL season , after last week's talk about the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles as possible championship contenders, they both lost their perfect starts.
Notable during those contests was the number of infractions each committed. Philadelphia committed them in key moments so they essentially beat themselves after leading 17-3 going into the fourth period versus Denver, who play overseas this weekend.
But it was good to see how Denver's QB the rookie managed to overcome the shortfall and then lead three scoring drives in three attempts during the final period, to win the victory by four points.
The Broncos have the top defender with cornerback their star corner. They rank first in red zone defence, while the Eagles are number one in red zone offence, and Denver prevailed in that battle.
They had effective strategies regarding simulated pressure. They weren't always rushing more than four pass rushers instead they might plug two LBs in the 'A' gap then withdrawing them and send a slot defender from the outside.
Early on of the season, we said during a show that the Broncos might emerge as the current year's dark horses. They finished the previous year strongly and did a good job in continuing that momentum.
Could Denver be this season's underdog story?
Recently acquired TE Evan Engram has excelled big and recent RB their rusher is a guy the team trusts. He's currently 5th in the NFL for rushing yards (over 400) as well as tied-fourth in rushing scores (four).
It's impressive how head coach Sean Payton has "RUN IT!" prominently of his playcall sheet.
This demonstrates that the Broncos are a squad aiming to run first, because one can achieve much off the back of that. It slows down the pass rush and keeps you in positive down and distances.
It's also helped QB the young passer, who came the NFL as the 12th overall draft pick in the prior draft, passing for 29 TDs – just behind Justin Herbert in rookie records (31 in 2020).
Other elite QBs have the arm strength to pass anywhere, however they lack the mobility that Nix has. He has incredible arm talent, a unique trait, plus he is so athletic.
His assets include his movement, the capacity to pass on the run, and using varied release points to deliver the pass when he rolls outside protection, the bootlegs. He is able to deliver precision throws across the middle or over the corner.
For a young quarterback, at 25, he displays great composure in the pocket and is not really fazed by the blitz. He tries to avoid a sack as much as possible and can pass under pressure. He has a high football IQ and is very decisive.
If you constantly rush it consumes time and forces the opponent to be on the field for longer, and if you've got an athletic quarterback the defence has to defend the area vertically and horizontally. This proves draining.
Nix has bitten back at Payton during games sometimes and I think the coach likes that attitude, that he's such a competitor. In my view it's fun for him to coach a rookie QB who's kind of like moldable clay. The coach can truly build something up how he wants to build it. I believe it's a special experience for him.
Payton owns a Super Bowl and now surpassed a legend in all-time victories (173, tying for 14th). He's seen everything. In my opinion the success the Broncos are experiencing on offence is largely due to his guidance, his play-calling, his game sense – and the combination with the QB aids shape him into who he is.
You wouldn't want a better guy guiding you, to assist you during some of the tougher situations and boost self-belief.
I believe in the Broncos' defense, in the QB's grit and calm. But are they strong enough to face an elite team at its best? Since that was not championship-level play from Philadelphia in their last game.
Right now, I don't think the Broncos are incredible. They're working better than most, which is a good place to hold the AFC West. All they need is is maintain this trajectory.
They excel at leaning into their strength, that is running the ball, and that's precisely what they should do against the New York Jets in London. It will likely be a Dobbins-focused game, in essence.
The Jets have allowed 140 yards on the ground each contest (sixth worst), five ground scores this season (in the bottom ten), and they are the sole squad without a win a game.
Since the league started recording turnovers decades ago, the Jets are also the first team to go without a single takeaway in five outings, this is surprising considering that their new coach was previously a defensive coach with another team.
Patrick Mahomes says the Chiefs have 'already lost too many games' after Monday's defeat to Jacksonville.
Following the upcoming matchup, the Broncos have a smooth-ish schedule until their break (in week twelve) - the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, the Texans plus Las Vegas Raiders prior to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Looking at the AFC West, Kansas City are 2-3 and the Broncos are tied with the Chargers on 3-2 so they could challenge at leading the West.
This hinges on which form of the Chiefs they face because the Broncos {beat|def
