Thrice-crowned MVP Jokic endures a 'heartbreaking' leg setback.
Three-time NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic suffered a "devastating" injury to his knee as the Nuggets were defeated 147-123 at the Heat.
The Serbian center was hurt towards the end of the second quarter following an inadvertent contact with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.
The other player came down on the footwear of the big man, who promptly went down to the court grabbing his knee.
The star, who tops the league season in rebounds and assists, recorded a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup prior to incurring the injury.
Jokic will undergo an MRI on Tuesday to evaluate the severity of the injury.
"Immediately, Jokic knew there was a problem," commented Denver head coach Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Any player that gets hurt, it's gut-wrenching, particularly somebody as special as he is. We will know more on Tuesday."
"We'll move on together. Of course, currently, I am more worried primarily about him personally and the frustration of facing something of that nature."
