The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
