The President Calls Loved Ones of Attacked National Guard Members to the White House
President Trump stated on the weekend that he has asked the loved ones of a Guard member killed last week to attend the White House.
He added that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Shooting
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Gatherings across West Virginia have occurred in their memory.
Presidential Invitation
The commander-in-chief explained he’s talked about a White House visit for the families of both individuals of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president addressed reporters. “And likewise with him, recover or not.”
Public Support
Attendees came together over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s government program to assist public safety in DC.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that instructors hoped for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s former high school, stated to the media. “She was caring, considerate and always eager to assist people.”
Memorial arrangements for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Legal Measures and Policy Adjustments
Officials have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy prompted the Trump administration to suspend refugee claims and temporarily stop granting entry permits to owners of travel documents.
Condition of the Airman
Wolfe, a resident of the city, enlisted in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the Associated Press.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed a news show that she planned to speak to his relatives.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a military police officer with honor, according to the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had courage,” the governor addressed the gathering at the service. “Though her life was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
