Supporters Call for Custody of Person Who Touched Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of Ariana Grande are demanding that a person who jumped a barrier and grabbed the celebrity during the recent Wicked: For Good debut be detained or deported from Singapore.
A circulating footage depicts the Australian man bypassing camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the cast walked down a yellow carpet accompanied by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram recently that he was "released after being arrested", though official papers showed that he was scheduled to appear on the next day. It is not clear if he was charged.
History of Event Invasions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a performance. His Instagram profile contains recordings of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in recently and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the same location last year.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen posted of his behavior.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" a different Instagram user questioned.
Fans Show Disapproval Over the Star's Well-being
Several fans accused Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the end of her 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming numerous individuals.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said a further response on Instagram.
A number of supporters also questioned event staff at the gathering for not being vigilant enough; while different individuals requested social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's content.
Response and Premiere Information
In footage spreading on the internet, Grande looked shocked when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted comforting her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Many of supporters had assembled in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific debut in a Singapore shopping center, including several who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The film, to be launched on 21 November, is the sequel of a two-part adaptation of the popular theatrical production Wicked, which focuses on the unexpected bond between two contrasting characters.
The production itself is a spin-off of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink glittering gown at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of the previous year in the UK, and scored ten award recognitions, winning two for best costume and set decoration.
