Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Defeat

Arne Slot admitted that it's expected for concerns to be raised about his future following a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.

The Reds endured their 9th defeat in 12 games, representing the team's poorest streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at Anfield.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received plenty of support from management,” the coach commented.

“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”

He noted, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we improved our results.”

Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach said:

“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”

He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so let’s see.”

Persistent Problems and Player Response

The manager lamented recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones stated.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”

He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club since I was young.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a phase like this with outcomes this poor.”

Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we'll continue to compete.”

“We’re going to try to help the side back to the top, demonstrate to all again what this club is about and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”

“At this moment, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
