An extensive extended voyage around the Australian Coast has been cancelled following the fatal incident of an elderly lady who was stranded by the cruise liner on a isolated coastal location.

Suzanne Rees had been walking on the remote island with other travelers from the cruise ship, but separated from the party for a pause. The ship sailed away leaving her and went back later that day after the personnel became aware the lady was unaccounted for.

A large-scale hunt found her remains the next day.

Investigative bodies are looking into the event, in coordination with police and the official investigator.

The CEO of the cruise operator said that travelers and personnel on the vessel were told that the rest of the journey had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and earlier engine troubles".

In a statement, he mentioned that guests would be provided a full refund, and said the organization was working "to organize the homeward trips of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Regulatory bodies also released an updated announcement, and said they had "issued a directive to the Commander" prohibiting any additional guests from boarding the vessel.

The representative said that they would visit the vessel in the port city upon its return.

Sequence of Incidents

The liner first departed the Australian port on October 24th, and was merely two days into the journey at the point of the senior passenger's death. Lizard Island was the opening port on the itinerary.

Guests on the vessel - who usually pay large sums of money to join the expedition - were ferried there for a daily excursion with the possibility of hiking or snorkelling.

Family Statement

The offspring of the elderly passenger said that her family was "stunned and saddened that the ship left Lizard Island after an scheduled excursion without my mother".

In her statement, she portrayed her parent as an "active octogenarian" who was a participant of a bushwalking club.

"From the little facts we have been provided, it seems that there was a breakdown of attention and basic judgment," she stated.

She added that she hoped the inquiry would be able to identify what "the company should have performed that might have protected Mum's existence".

"According to reports from the police that it was a exceptionally warm day, and she became unwell on the hill climb," she explained.

"She was asked her to go back, alone. Then the ship sailed away, reportedly without conducting a passenger count.

"During some point in that chain of events, or soon after, mother died, without company."

Organization Response

Via official communication, the Head affirmed that the operator was "cooperating fully with investigators to support their investigation".

He mentioned that the company was "very regretful that this has happened" and had provided its complete assistance to the loved ones.

Cruise Industry Procedures

The vessel serves up to one hundred twenty guests with nearly fifty staff, according to company data. It was purpose-built to reach distant locations of Australia's coastline and is equipped with "auxiliary vessels" - small boats used to ferry passengers on land visits.

Events of this nature are infrequent, and cruise ships have protocols to track which travelers are getting on or getting off, according to travel authorities.

Cruise lines regard these procedures extremely carefully and have "clever tech in place to stop such occurrences from occurring," the expert added.
