New York City Mayor Eric Adams Will Support Andrew Cuomo in New York City Mayor's Election

New York City Mayor Eric Adams revealed his plan to support Andrew Cuomo in the forthcoming mayoral race, even after months of strained relations between the pair of Democrats.

A Surprising Reversal After Recent Criticism

Only weeks ago, Adams had publicly condemned Cuomo, calling him a “snake and a liar” and alleging of having “a career of marginalizing Black political contenders.” Nonetheless, in a recent statement, Mayor Adams made a U-turn, revealing he now plans to appear with Cuomo in neighborhoods where he maintains strong support.

“It is crucial to mobilize the Black and brown communities that have suffered from urban displacement on how critical this election is,” Adams stated.

The mayor further explained, “They have watched their rents increase in terms of gentrification and they have been disregarded in those neighborhoods, and I plan to visit to those neighborhoods and speak one on one with community leaders and organizations and I will appear with the former governor in those neighborhoods and get them motivated.”

Race Dynamics and Current Developments

The mayoral contest has so far been dominated by the struggle between the former governor and progressive candidate Zohran Mamdani, whose increasing popularity has made headlines worldwide and symbolized hopes for a rejuvenated leftwing of the Democratic party.

During a latest mayoral debate, both Mamdani and GOP candidate Curtis Sliwa announced they would reject Adams’s endorsement if offered.

Earlier this year, the mayor had launched his re-election campaign as an unaffiliated candidate after facing federal corruption charges which were later dismissed in return for Adams’s cooperation with federal immigration raids across New York City.

During a separate media briefing on Thursday, the mayor responded to journalists inquiring into the endorsement plan by stating, “I'm meeting Andrew later today.”

The announcement followed a day after the two politicians were seen sitting courtside together at the New York Knicks’ first game at the famous arena, which took place right after a heated candidate debate.
