Arteta Praises a More Dependable Team and Reveals Havertz Setback.
The Gunners' boss has expressed confidence that his squad can keep managing with fitness issues after confirming that forward Kai Havertz remains out for the coming weeks.
Prolonged Recovery for German Star
The Germany international has been out since the summer due to an operation on his knee. Initially expected to return sooner, the manager stated the player faced a hurdle when increasing his rehabilitation and could not progress “the next phase.”
“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a group that is far more dependable and has greater depth,” Arteta said.
Selection Dilemma for Midweek Fixture
This news presents a tactical puzzle for the midweek match against Brentford. A decision is required between persisting with Mikel Merino, who found the net playing out of position against Chelsea, or reinstating Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return off the bench in the latter stages. When asked if more options was aiding their league challenge, his response was positive. “Absolutely, as this campaign has seen more issues in certain positions, and now the problems with the defence,” he noted.
“Our previous experiences taught us that we need to utilize players in various roles, and they must be capable to fulfil different roles if we are to fight at this level. And the case of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”
Arteta's Support for Frustrated Star
Speaking about the delay noted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided additional context. “He was doing everything. He failed to advance to the required step and now it appears like we have overcome that hurdle.”
He shared his eagerness to see him return. “The team is keen to have him. Truly, Havertz is someone that, personally, I love so much for the qualities he offers to the team, but his character, his nature. I see him suffer on the sidelines.”
“His availability record is outstanding, he’s been always available, and I can’t wait to have him back around the team on the pitch because I feel it’s going to be a huge lift.”
